Ready, Aim…

Coming soon, Hillcrest’s first archery team!

There is a great deal of excitement — and soon enough, arrows — in the air, as approximately 50 students (pictured here) are “taking aim” to be part of a new spring sport: archery. Band director Josh Landrum, who is also an accomplished archer and has placed in numerous competitions, will be the team’s coach.  Most of the necessary equipment has been already delivered, so parents, if your child is pictured here, be on the lookout for more information very soon.

Winter Athletics

While school took a break for the past 2 weeks, winter sports did not.  Both basketball and soccer are mid-season and still have several games left, and our Cougar athletes have been working hard and will continue to push themselves in order to have successful seasons.

Please continue to come out and support our Cougar basketball and soccer teams.  Junior varsity and varsity basketball will next play this Saturday at Jackson Academy beginning at 2:00 PM.  The Cougar soccer team will play again Tuesday, January 10 at Oak Forest beginning at 5:00 PM.

On Friday, November 4th, senior Skylar Patterson signed a commitment with Holmes Community College in Goodman to play softball on an athletic scholarship which will cover the costs of tuition as well as room and board.  Patterson states, “I think this will be a great experience, and I’m excited about it.”  Congratulations on your accomplishment, Skylar!

Sweet Victories

Congratulations go to our Varsity Girls’ basketball team this week! They won both games played in the pre-season tournament at MRA.  Tuesday night’s victory was a nail-biter, but the Lady Cougars took the win against Magnolia Heights in overtime; Thursday night’s game, however, was a solid win for the ladies, 47 to 25 over Hartfield.  What a great start to the new season!

Congratulations must also go to the Quiz Bowl team!  Our resident geniuses competed against Enterprise High School yesterday and won their match with a score of 350 to 50.  Impressive!

Keep making us proud, Cougar nation!
